SAN MIGUEL DE ARTADI CLOCK
From 1901
This clock was built in 1901 for the San Miguel de Artadi Church, in Zumaia.
The clock’s inscription reads “Built by Benito Yeregui in Usurbil, being parish priest Mr. Rosendo Recondo, Nº 59 Year 1901“
MT = (FW x SW x EW) x 2 / (PS x PE)
MT = 3,173.33 oscillations per hour. Each escape wheel swing is equivalent to 1.134454 sec.
Main wheels, Movement and y Chiming wheels, made in bronze; Escape wheel, with 34 teeth and anchor, of rest
Original weights are unknown. Currently, the movement driving weight is about 40 kilogrames, and the chiming weight about 40 kilogrames.
Engines used to rise the suspended driving and chiming weights are Flux type. Lineal engine for the pendulum control, Pendulum Magnet.
José Francisco Yeregui Zabaleta
1760-1834
The “Yeregui” dynasty as Clockmakers-Blacksmiths started with Jose Francisco, born in Leitza. Jose Francisco, carpenter at that time, built a wooden clock which he displayed during a fair in the city of Pamplona, in Navarra.
Benito Yeregui Goldaracena
1843-1912
During his years as a Blacksmith-Clockmaker, he built up to 80 clocks, according to the records. One of his main proyects is San Miguel of Artadi Clock built in 1901 and you can still see it at Zumaia’s Lighthouse Promenade.
Andrés Yeregui Eraso
1884-1975
Known as the Old Blacksmith and considered a living archive on Betelu burg’s. history. Among the clocks built by Andrés, the clocks of Izurdiaga, Igoa and Latasa are to be highlighted.
